ReplyDeleteHey Adam, your plan is interesting and most important since online education at Lamar is growing out of sight. One idea I have for the training would be to show samples of the best, and then locate some samples of really "bad" online courses. I truly believe that we learn more from what NOT to do than if someone told me what to do. What type of training will you develop? FtF? blended? online? Remember that this type of prof. dev. will have to be ongoing and not a one-shot learning. Hope this helps some.
ReplyDeleteI like your research plan, Adam. How will you know what changes to make to the professional development schedule? Will those changes be based solely on teacher feedback from the surveys you are giving out? Is the survey that you are talking about more of an assessment of current skills, or will it be a questionnaire asking them what types of professional development they would like?

ReplyDeleteShowing excellent classes and poorly designed classes is an excellent idea but is perhaps beyond the scope of this particular action research plan. We already atleast 50 professional development workshops a year as well as offering one on one training on demand. We are also currently developing an online version of all the training.

The surveys will be to assess their skills. I'm hoping that i can determine their own perception of their skills and their actual skill level. Some parts of the survey will be very quiz like. In addition to that we will continue our policy of constantly seeking suggestions from faculty members. We already ask them what type of professional development they would like but that has yielded very minimal benefits.
I like how you are incorporating personal evaluations. How will you reconcile their perceptions with the reality? Also when asking for recommendations on professional development, is it open ended? Or do you give them guidance on potential topics?
ReplyDeleteGreat job Adam, good luck.
